How To Make Healthy Dog Treats

Dog treats are great supplements for your dog’s diet. They also are fantastic incentives for training and disciplining your pet. You can make dog treats in the comforts of your own kitchen. These are so much healthier than commercially available treats.

Liver Treat

For this, you will need a pound of chicken liver, about three tablespoons of honey, graham cracker bits and parsley. Mix all the ingredients together using a food processor. When it’s done, make several round or square servings of this and put this in a baking tray then bake this at 200 degrees for about 30 minutes to an hour. To check if the inside of the food is already done, insert a toothpick to it, once in a while. When the treats are done baking, you can refrigerate this and have one on stock, which you can give to your dog anytime.

Tuna Treat

For this, you will need a can of tuna in water, with the water left undrained. You will also need two eggs and a tablespoon of flour, plus Parmesan cheese for flavor. Adding garlic powder is optional, as some pet owners do not like giving garlic to their dogs. With your ingredients prepared, mash the tuna first using a food processor or blender, or just mixing it with a spoon. Add a few drops of water if the consistency is uneven. Next, add the flour. Aim for a cake-mix like consistency. Then spread this in a greased pan, like pizza dough. Sprinkle in lots of the cheese and then bake for 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. When it is done, you can slice this into tiny squares. Freeze the extra batch for stock and just reheat this before giving to your dogs later.

Peanut Butter Treat

For this, you will need a cup of peanut butter, a spoonful of corn oil, a cup of wheat flour and some water. The oven must already be preheated at 350 degrees as you mix the corn oil, peanut butter and water. Slowly add the flour and form into dough. Knead this until you have a firm batch. Cut the dough using cookie cutters and then back this for about 20 minutes.

Dog Cookie Treat

For this, you will need some 3 cups of whole-wheat flour, a can of dog food of your choice, one egg and some water or leftover broth. Preheat the oven at 375 degrees first then mix all the ingredients together to form cookie dough. Use a spoon to drop a circle of “cookie” onto the baking sheet and then back this for about 15 minutes. Store the extra batch in the refrigerator for feeding later.
Some dogs may be allergic to wheat flour though, so you will probably have to substitute this using soy flour, rice flour or those instant potato mix. You may also use buckwheat, as this is gluten free.

You may also add in gelatin to these baked treats to hold it together. Gelatin is good for the dog’s hair or coat.
