How To Use Preventic Flea & Tick Control

Fleas and ticks are parasitic creatures that feed on your pet’s blood. Not only do they suck the blood out of your pet but also usually cause diseases. They also make your pets scratch themselves often, because flea and tick bites are often itchy. For the sake of the health of your pet, you will need to make sure that it is not infested with fleas or ticks. One way to ensure that is to use a flea and tick control product such as Preventic. In this article, you will read some tips on how to use Preventic to control fleas and ticks in your pet.

  • Do not use Preventic on cats. The product is designed specifically for dogs, but not for cats. Cats will get sick if you use Preventic on them. The culprit is called permethrins, which is the active ingredient in Preventic. Permethrins are poisonous to cats. So, never use Preventic on a flea- or tick-infested cat.
  • Spray Preventic only when you see fleas or ticks. Because it is a spray-on product, it is easy to administer to your dog. Just spray your dog’s fur with Preventic. Rub the liquid further into the fur or comb your dog’s fur to spread the liquid evenly on your dog’s body.
  • Observe your dog. Especially if it’s your first time to try Preventic on your dog, observe your dog for about one or two hours after applying Preventic on its fur. It is important that you watch for any adverse reactions to Preventic.
  • Keep the cat away. If you also have pet cats in your home, make sure they don’t come in contact with your Preventic-covered dog. Remember, Preventic is toxic to cats. You wouldn’t want your pet cat to suddenly have seizures or to die from poisoning.
  • Treat both indoor and outdoor pet dogs. Fleas and ticks are quite talented little critters. They can quickly transfer from one pet dog to another. So, if you want to eradicate these pests, make sure all of your pet dogs are treated.
  • Use Preventic Collars. These collars are very effective in killing and removing ticks, as well as in preventing new ticks from sticking to your dog’s skin. Within two days after you first attached the collar to your dog, you will start seeing dead ticks. The potency of these waterproof collars can last up to three months. However, these do not kill fleas. If your dog also has fleas, you will need additional treatment specific for flea eradication. Preventic Collars are especially recommended for treating country dogs, which have more likelihood of coming in contact with ticks.
  • Always read and follow instructions. This is plain common sense. In addition, heed the label warnings, too. When in doubt, consult with your veterinarian.

Spring and summer are flea and tick seasons. Once fleas and ticks infest your dog, they can give you a really hard time and your dog a very itchy time. So, to make sure that your dog stays healthy, clean, and pest-free, use a flea and tick control product such as Preventic and use it properly.
